The Earth Brought Forth

The Text

Genesis 1:24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

God said
let the earth bring forth
creatures...livestock...creeping things...beasts
according to their kinds
And it was so
And God made...
And God saw that it was good

From the text, what would you expect to see in the natural world?
Does it require no death?  What does it mean for the earth to 'bring forth'?
Does 'according to their kinds' mean genetic lineage, or just that there was a great variety of kinds?  What does 'And God made' mean when it is stated after the statement 'And it was so'?

Can we find commentaries that answer these questions?
